HISTORY AND PURPOSE

Wallace Evans

Mel Misfeldt

In 1934, employees of the Davenport School System got together and decided there was a need for a credit union. They pooled their resources to help fellow employees who were having rough times financially.

On December 14,1934, nine teachers launched the Davenport Teachers Credit Union by signing the Articles of Incorporation. After the first year's operation, the teachers had invested $1,081.00. Today, at this printing we have grown to almost ten million dollars in assets.

We now serve all employees and their families in school districts located in Scott, Clinton, Cedar and Muscatine counties in Iowa as well as Eastern Iowa Community Colleges and Mississippi Bend AEA. Also included are Henry, Whiteside, and Rock Island counties in Illinois.

Purposes of the credit union are to encourage thrift among our membes, through payroll deduction savings, low interest rate loans, and many other financial services allowed by the state and federal law.

We are a non-profit co-operative organization owned and managed by and for our members.

In January 1988, the members changed our name to Scott Schools Credit Union to better represent our field of membership.

ORGANIZATION AND MANAGEMENT

Your Credit Union is governed by an twelve member Board of Directors. Each director is elected at each annual meeting to serve a three year term. The board is responsible for the general management of affairs, funds, and records of the credit union.

They meet regularly to decide upon savings, dividends, loan interest rates, lending policies, investment policies, and many other business matters.

Elected officers of the board include the Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, and Chief Financial Officer. The board appoints an operating manager, as well as the Audit Committee, Credit Committee, and Investment Committee.

In addition to the Audit Committee, which conducts routine audits and the Credit Committee, which regularly approves loan applications, other volunteers serve on various committees and act as representatives in dispensing information to our members.

To assist us in our communications with our members, the credit union is endeavoring to have a credit union representative in each location. Due to the changes in the school personnel assignments, these representatives change. Check to see who the credit union representative is in your area. If you are interested in becoming a credit union representative, please contact the credit union.

Through the effort of all of these people, we are able to be responsive to all of our members.

All transactions are processed in a prompt, professional, and confidential manner. Credit union officials, representatives, and staff take an "Oath of Office", and are sworn to maintain the confidentiality of the financial affairs, and transactions, as well as personal information concerning our members.
